I was expecting to see a lot of dragon and lion dances at the Hong Kong New Year’s Parade and was surprised when most of the floats and performers were much more commercial than traditional. I stood across from a Burberry store while I watched floats from Disneyland, a lot of banks and airlines and, most bizarrely, the Denver Broncos cheerleaders go by. I felt a little disappointed but just read that lion dances actually aren’t very common to see anymore though they did used to be popular.
