The holiday technically lasts for fifteen days but government workers and most other people have to be back at work on the eighth day. Most stores had signs up saying that they would be closed for a few days so I continued my tour of giant buddhas instead. This buddha used to be the world’s biggest bronze buddha up until 2000 – I’m not sure which buddha holds that title now though. He is outside of the city on Lantau Island surrounded by pretty forests. One of my favorite things about Hong Kong is that it’s really easy to escape the buildings and go on a hike or visit the beach.
