The next day my host mom took me to Starbucks to spend the afternoon drinking hot chocolate and reading magazines. It was my first time at a Starbucks in China and it was a magical experience. Prices are a little more expensive than in America so a drink might cost the equivalent of $5 instead of $4. But compared to what everything else costs here, the prices are actually exorbitantly high. One coffee might be the same price as what I would usually pay for five or more dinners. Sichuan province is famous for having spicy food and even Starbucks in Chengdu is getting on board with a spicy black forest cake and spicy mocha. Another thing most Starbucks in America might not have – two People’s Liberation Army soldiers.
