Luo Yu and I hosted a movie dubbing competition which apparently is a normal event in China. Students chose a movie in English and then competed by muting the sound and saying the movie characters’ lines. Animated movies had the best representation. We had scenes from Frozen, Shrek, Garfield, Madagascar and Tangled. Our favorite though was a scene from Aquamarine, a 2006 movie about two girls who find a mermaid, starring Emma Roberts, Jojo, and Sara Paxton. The movie is super popular amongst my students and it definitely seems like the exact kind of movie that all the college girls here would love.
