Today was my birthday! I was having a really busy week and hadn’t planned on telling any of my students. They all knew anyway though because my birthday is on my QQ, the preferred Chinese social media (no Facebook, Instagram or Twitter!). At night, a group of some of the sweetest girls took me out to a DIY cake decorating store in my little town. I had never noticed this store before because it’s literally just an empty room with three toaster ovens in the back. The shop owner presented us with a Chinese spongy cake and then we spent an hour decorating it with colorful frosting and fruit. It was very, very fun and it was the first time any of the students had ever decorated a cake! In the picture are Yoky, Angelina, Karina, Margot, and Sunny.
