This is James, the one foreign student at the university in Zigong. He’s from Sierra Leone, but has been studying in China for the past six years. He now speaks fluent Chinese and is getting his Master’s in Public Relations. He’s also very kind and gracious. We see each other relatively often but this was the first time we spent the entire day together outside. I think every foreigner in China constantly gets stared at, but it was pretty crazy how much attention James got. Mouths dropped open and necks craned as we walked by. Kids shouted and pointed. It didn’t seem like people were mean, just unable to control their impolite actions. When we were having lunch, a women literally threw her kid on top of James so that they could take a picture together.
