Qingming Festival or Tomb Sweeping Day is a public holiday to honor one’s ancestors. During the holiday people will visit the graves of their close relatives in the countryside to pray, clean the tombs, and offer things like food, tea, or shiny decorations. This holiday also marks the beginning of springtime. Almost all of my students went home for the three-day weekend, but I think it was difficult for them to explain to me in English exactly what they did with their families over the holiday. They did all say that they ate a lot of delicious home cooked food.
